Fir and Cedar Detox Bath Salts Recipe

I love it when I am asked to create a custom recipe. It means I will explore new ideas beyond what I already have and hopefully it turns out to be something somebody loves.

So I needed to create a relaxing, detoxifying bath soak to uplift and give an overall sense of well being. Immediately I am inspired to our native trees, Douglas Fir and Cedar. Conifers are one of the richest sources of polyprenols which stimulate the immune system, cellular repair and contain antiviral properties – in particular against influenza viruses! Which all goes a long way towards explaining their ancient reputation as a cure-all for practically anything!

My house is surrounded by conifers so I didn’t have to go far and we recently had a storm with high winds so it was a perfect time to collect some of the fallen branches to harvest.

If you are foraging for anything in nature it is important to ask it to pull its energy up and let the spirit know that their work with this particular plant or tree is complete. I like to carry a little bit of tobacco or sage with me so that I can give it as an offering. This is how we deepen our relationship and care for our land.

Fir and Cedar Detox Bath Salts Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup Douglas Fir needles and Cedar leaves, foraged or collected after a storm
6 cups epsom salts or magnesium chloride flakes or dead sea salt or himalayan pink salt (or a blend)
1 cup bentonite clay
1 cup rose petals, dehydrated
2 tablespoons jojoba oil
20 drops grapefruit essential oil
15 drops cedar atlas essential oil
15 drops fir essential oil

Instructions:

Run your fingers down each fir branch to easily remove the needles and pull off the cedar leaves. If you are using a food processor you can place them directly into the mixing bowl. If you are mixing by hand, chop the needles and leaves in to very small pieces. Put your fingers up to your face and breathe in deeply. This is one of the best smells on the planet!

Add the salts, rose petals and clay then blend until the salt has turned bright green.

Pour into a glass or ceramic bowl. Stir in the oil and essential oils. Store in mason jars with the lid on tight. (essential oils will make this bath more potent, however you can leave them out and still receive fantastic benefit)

To use:

Pour 1/2 -2 cups in a warm to hot tub just before entering. Soak for at least 20 minutes and keep the water as hot as you can tolerate. All you need is 1/2 a cup for detoxification, relaxation and circulation.

If you are feeling congested or unwell add about 2 cups to amp up the benefits.

After bath, stay warm. Drink water to restore your hydration, or sip on lemon and ginger tea.

To your health and well being,
Brandy
