Full Moon Ritual

Tonight is a full moon and so I felt called to share with you the ways in which you can amp up your full moon game through the power of performing a ritual.

The full moon is an exuberant time. She calls us to experience our external selves in much the same way the new moon calls us to observe our internal self.

During the full moon, you may feel a desire to cast off old binds and restraints; to harness the fullness of your energy to overcome stubborn challenges; and to harness your intuition to release negative habits, situations, or relationships.

This is an exciting time of increased energies helping you to feel empowered, and a greater connection to Source energy, and of course a little howling. It is a powerful emotional time that naturally moves you into alignment of the spirit, body, and mind.

Strong emotions, powerful dreams, and significant life events are all part of the full moon energy. It is a great time for meditation or for expressing yourself creatively through art, music, and dance.

You can do a Full Moon Ritual to give thanks for the blessings, gifts and wisdom that you have received and enhance your experience.

My favourite ways to work with the energy of the full moon are through the elements of fire and water.

Gathering at a bon fire is a power way to release what no longer serves you and submerging your body in a body of water or bathtub is a way of empowering yourself.

Other ways are through speaking words, as words are spells, to speak out loud mantras or affirmations of who you have become. This could be the full moon ritual alone, you can make your ritual as layered and creative as possible, dream it up.

A full moon ritual is particularly potent when you start with an intention on the new moon, however I have had some powerful full moon ceremonies that I didn’t plan for at all.

On the night of the full moon write down on a piece of paper what you are letting go of , an example would be “I let go of my anger towards ….” , “I let go of feeling guilt….”, “ I let go of feeling unworthy”……

Fire

When working with the fire element - you can have a fire outside, a wood stove, fireplace or a candle. Just be sure the precautions are in place so that you can stay focused on your ritual and not have the distraction of containing or putting out the fire - be particularly thoughtful about burning papers indoors, have something to safely place the burning papers in.

Open your ritual by visualizing the light of the moon shining down on you. Hold your piece of paper with what you are releasing over your heart and take a moment to feel as fully and compassionately all of what you are wanting to let go of.

When you are ready, begin to burn your piece of paper over your fireproof container. Watch as the paper curls up into ash. You may like to say within your mind or out loud “I release this, so may it be,” or simply “goodbye.”

When the paper has turned completely to ash, go outside and scatter the ash to the wind or offer it to the earth. When you are finished, say within or out loud “it is done.”

Water

You can release what no longer serves you through this simple and powerful water ritual that I hold dear to my heart. The best places that I have found for this ritual are in rivers, waterfalls, lakes and the ocean. You can do this in the bathtub, but if you can perform this outside you will have a significantly more powerful experience, especially in the light of the full moon.

Stand at the edge of the water, take some time to become present within yourself observing your environment.

Place your hand on your heart and allow yourself to feel whatever wants to be acknowledged, let it rise within you.

When you are ready, go to the water and acknowledge her beingness, dip your hand in and cup some of the water raising it to your forehead.

Then with the spirit of water on your third eye, ask the water to cleanse you of what is ready to be released.

Close your eyes and feel her respond to you.

When you feel her invite you in, completely submerge your body and stay under for a comfortable amount of time, then rise and breathe deeply the air into your lungs and deeply out.

You will feel space in your body. A lightness.

Take some time in the water to feel the blessing you have received. Acknowledge the water, thank her. Drink some of the water if you like, take her into your body and replenish yourself.

If you are able to lay naked under the moonlight after your bath, it is a very beautiful way of connecting with the power of the moon and who you have just become.

Something that is nice to do is to give an offering such as flowers to the water prior to performing your ceremony…but anytime will do.

Happy moon blessings.
